Porto, Portugal

Updated: Jun 3

My trip to Porto in Portugal was short but fulfilling, over a weekend with 3 friends, enough to explore and discover this colorful and vibrant city.

The day was cloudy but we started exploring right away.

Mercado do Bolhao

A visit, at Bolhao market is definitely recommended , where you can find fresh fish, cooked food, sandwiches, cheese, charcuterie, souvenirs and flowers. Keep in mind it is closed on Sundays and National holidays.

A quick stop for a coffee break and Pasteis de Nata is never a bad idea. Especially when you are sharing with loved ones.

Each restaurant specializes on Arroz de Pato, a traditional Portuguese fried rice dish with Duck.

Another famous Portuguese dish is called Francesinha, it is the croque Madame of Portugal in my opinion. Served with spicy tomato sauce covering the ham and cheese sandwich.

The Capela das Almas de Santa Catarina, on Rua de Fernandes Tomas, is the most famous traditional Portuguese art form of Azulejos tile facade you can see in Porto.  created by Eduardo Leite in 1929, these tiles are depicting scenes from the lives of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Catherine of Alexandria.

W walked along the Ponte Luis bridge to cross to the other side called Gaia, where the Art District of Porto is. A walk, worth having as you get to experience great 360 views over Porto and Gaia.

And under the sunset's golden rays, our weekend came to an end.
